What is the science behind The Harmony Report ?

For over 30 years we have been working towards a unique synthesis of “DISC” and “Big 5″ personality assessment technologies.  These 2 systems have been examined for accuracy by thouseands of independent research teams, and both have been found to be exceedingly accurate in profile “personality”.  Our research has enabled us to create a tool that takes the predictive accuracy to incredible levels.

The “DISC” portion of The Harmony Report measures 4 broad categories of behavior, and our “Big 5″ variant analyzes 35 universal character traits shared by all humans regardless of culture.  Further, our test results remain quite stable within individuals as they grow and mature, so what The Harmony Report tells you NOW, is likely to be true ten and twenty years from now.  Needless to say, this can be invaluable for assessing long-term success of committed relationships, to name but a single use.

Take a look at the “Try it Free” link at the top and you can see sample test results, and take our “free” variant, which gives you an incredibly detailed result.  Only after trying the free version should you purchase the Full Report which will provide unprecedented levels of personality analysis.

How accurate is the typical Harmony Report?

The Harmony Report is extraordinarily accurate.  Most people who take the questionnaire tell us that the report is the most accurate and complete description of “what makes them tick” that they have ever encountered.  It’s like the program is able to “get inside your head” and really get to know the True You.

Don’t take our word on this … take the free test and get the incredibly detailed report on YOU.  Only if you feel that to be accurate would you want to spend your hard-earned money for the Full Report.  The Full Report will tell you if you have any of the markers that have been known to lead to maladaptive personality disorders and other problems in life that are the result of one’s tendencies gone awry.

What is the difference between "Personality Types" and "Personality Disorders" ? Which do I have according to the report?

The Harmony Report will tell you if you have a significant number of markers for 17 different personality disorders (see next FAQ to read about these disorders).  Psychologists have been quick to diagnose clients with “Personality Disorders” when in actuality the client simply had a “Personality Type”.  For example, let’s suppose you don’t need many friends and enjoy your time alone and perhaps don’t like mingling in “groups”.  Let’s further assume that you never get emotionally upset, and other people find you too “controlled” or lacking in “passionate emotion”.  Psychologist have been quick to label such people with Schizoid Personality Disorder, when in actuality they were perfect happy and functioning individuals who were simply “Schizoid Personality TYPE”.  A “type” only becomes a “disorder” when it manifests in your life as “maladaptive”.  Personality characteristics become “maladaptive” when the begin to hurt your happiness and harmony (health, contentment, career, relationships), or that of others who are close to you.

The Harmony Report is not a “diagnostic tool” which will BRAND you with a personality disorder.  Instead, it provides notification if you show “markers” of various personality disorders, and will make it quite clear how to tell if this is because of your “personality type” or whether it’s closer to being a “disorder”.  Take a look at one of our sample “Full Reports” off of the “Try it Free” menu.

What kind of (and how many) personality disorders does your test measure ?

If you personality has a significant number of markers from any of the following 17 Personality Disorders, they will be presented in great detail  within the “Full Report” (both “Full – Individual” and “Full – 2 Person Comparison”)
Paranoid personality disorder is a pattern of distrust and suspiciousness such that others’ motives are interpreted as malevolent.
Schizoid personality disorder is a pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of emotional expression.
Schizotypal personality disorder is a pattern of acute discomfort in close relationships, cognitive or perceptual distortions, and eccentricities of behavior.
Antisocial personality disorder is a pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others.
Borderline personality disorder is a pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impulsivity.
Histrionic personality disorder is a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking.
Narcissistic personality disorder is a pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy.
Avoidant personality disorder is a pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation.
Dependent personality disorder is a pattern of submissive and clinging behavior related to an excessive need to be taken care of.
Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder is a pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and control.
Psychopathy is a personality or mental disorder characterized partly by antisocial behavior, a diminished capacity for remorse, and poor behavioral controls.
Passive-Aggressive personality disorder is a pattern of passive resistance to demands of adequate social and occupational performance.
Sadistic personality disorder is a pattern of cruel, demeaning, and aggressive behavior.
Self-Defeating personality disorder is a pattern of self-defeating behavior in which a person may often avoid or undermine pleasurable experiences, be drawn to situations or relationships in which he or she will suffer, and prevent others from helping him/her.
Negativistic personality disorder is a pattern of behavior similar in most respects to Passive-Aggressive personality disorder, but with an added factor of high personal assertiveness in that they are “almost always right” and others are “almost invariably wrong”. Anyone who wants to debate personal blame with a negativist will be in for a losing battle, since Negativists will always be able to justify their “personal righteousness” (and thus the other person’s “obviously incorrect position”)
Depressive personality disorder is a pattern of feelings of dejection, gloominess, cheerlessness, joylessness, and unhappiness. These individuals are overly serious, incapable of enjoyment or relaxation, and lack a sense of humor.
Sex Offender – Although this is not categorized by Western Psychology as a “personality disorder” it is easily included in the group of “maladaptive personality flaws” and has a classic pattern of warning traits in this unique personality testing. It is a pattern of the committing of “sex crimes” whose definition varies from culture to culture. Some of the crimes which usually result in a mandatory (legal) sex-offender classification are: a second prostitution conviction, sending or receiving obscene content in the form of text messages, relationship between adults and teenagers resulting in corruption of a minor, sexual assault, statutory rape, child sexual abuse, incest, rape, and sexual imposition.

If I am shown to have a strong tendency towards a particular Personality Disorder, what should I do ?

The Harmony Report will definitely give you suggestions on approaches to personality tendencies that might be “excessively high” or “excessively low”, or if you might have tendencies found in various personality disorders.  However, you see our suggestions and feel that you need help modifying any of your character traits, then you might consider seeking a counselor or therapist.

Many psychologists are quick to prescribe medications, but if prefer to keep you body “drug-free” we can recommend a number of alternative methods such as the thousands of “Mindfulness training” seminars found throughout the world.  Mindfulness training is becoming quite popular in adjusting “unhappy compulsive thinking” due to its effectiveness and because it’s something you can practice ANYWHERE.  We can also strongly recommend several companies that sell training materials on RELEASING unwanted and unintended compulsive thinking.  We are not affiliated with such companies in any way, so our recommendations are completely altruistic.

What are the significant differences between the free version of The Harmony Report, and the full version ?

How does The Harmony Report facilitate improvement in marriage ? Does it work for everyone?

Relationships begin to fail when harmony lessens, and with a lessening of harmony come “disconnection”.  When couples become increasingly disconnected, love and friendship begin to dwindle until no love or friendship exists any longer.

Realizing this, our report attacks the problem “at the very top” … that is, we show you where harmony is absent, and thus provide you a starting point to begin kind and compassionate dialogue with each other.  The key to restoring harmony is to develop a Deep Mutual Understand of each other.  To do this, anger and self-centeredness need to be put aside.  If 2 people can follow those simple steps, The Harmony Report will work for EVERYONE.  However, sometimes a person in a relationship is too absorbed in anger, bitterness, and resentment, and will thus not be able to be a productive partner in the restoration of harmony.  Both people in the relationship must agree to put aside anger and resentment, and have their “eyes on the prize”.

How can The Harmony Report save my marriage?

If you’ve read the previous FAQ in this section, then you’ll see that The Harmony Report can be used to establish a Deep Mutual Understanding of each other.  Once this is done, harmony is quickly reestablished and you will have an environment conducive to the support of love, compassion, and friendship.

The Harmony Report shows you where there is a LACK of harmony, and you can begin to work together towards harmony’s rectification.

What is the best way to use The Harmony Report for my marriage ?

To use The Harmony Report, come to a mutual agreement that you both want to rectify your problems, that anger and resentment will be put aside, and that Deep Mutual Understanding is the initial step.

With those steps agreed to, you both take the “2 Person Comparison” report and then sit together and examine the results as a spring board for discussion.  Warm and compassionate discussion is the crucial path when examining the report … anger and resentment will cause you to step “off” the path of harmony restoration.

If we use The Harmony Report for our marriage, might we still need to seek professional counseling?

If you are trying to use The Harmony Report to reestablish connection, and one or both of you falls into patterns of anger, hostility and resentment, then you will have no choice but to seek the guidance of a mediator.  However, if you can place your hostility aside for short periods of time at home, you can make tremendous progress without the need for a marriage counselor.

If you examine your report results “in the spirit of love” then you might have those “AHA” moments when you both realize that the solution is right in front of your eyes.  Don’t forget that you have one complimentary email consultation in case you get stuck …

How does The Harmony Report facilitate improvement between parents and teens?

Alot of discord manifests in a relationship with a teen because of a failure to understand the other.  The Harmony report enables you both to have a better understanding of each other, and points out areas in which your tendencies are very different.  By asking your teen if any of those differences make him/her uncomfortable, you can find ways to establish compromise.

What is the best way to convince my teen to take the questionnaire seriously and honestly answer all the questions?

Sometimes it is difficult to get your teen to take things seriously (like answering The Harmony Report) with care and attention and not just randomly clicking on answers (just to get it over with).  In a gentle way, explain to your teen that the more care they take answering the questions, the better you will both be able to understand each other and find compromises.

A bit of bribery also tends to help !  Offer your teen something special as a reward when the questions have been answered, and offer little incentives for taking time to discussing the report results.  Maybe a slight bending of rules would be appreciated, or some extra privileges or treats can sweeten the deal …

Once I have The Harmony Report completed, what should I do next to help my teen ?

When you have your report in hand, highlight anything you find of particular importance, and then sit down with your teen for some calm discussion.  Emphasize that the more understanding that you can generate, then the happier your teen will eventually be.

At worst case, you can use The Harmony Report to decide if perhaps some teen counseling is in order, or perhaps “family counseling” might be the best course.  You’ll have a clearer picture of where discords exist once you both take the questionnaire, and the answers may surprise you !  Don’t forget that you can take advantage of one free email consultation and ask out team what we think the best course of action might be.

How can The Harmony Report be used to help treat addiction ?

All addictions stem from some deeply implanted feeling of “incompleteness”.  The feeling of “incompleteness” always begins with some form of emotional discord (the opposite of “Harmony”).  Emotional discord is felt when some aspect of your personality becomes “maladaptive”.

The Harmony Report pinpoints exactly those areas of your personality that are most likely to be maladaptive, the source of discord, and those will almost invariably be the aspects of your personality that support, encourage, and sustain your addiction.

The first step in treating your addictive behavior is understanding the root of your feelings of “incompleteness”, and that’s what They Harmony Report DOES !

Can a person treat themselves using the knowledge gained from The Harmony Report?

Many spiritual gurus as well as modern psychologists teach their clients that the way to change maladaptive behavior (in this case, “addiction”) is to understand the root cause within yourself.

Once you understand the root cause (by examining your “Full Report”) you can use our instructions for eliminating the unwanted thoughts, feelings and emotions centered around your “sense of incompleteness”.  Many clients find that simply shining a light on the darkness is enough to put them well on the road to recovery, completeness, and Lasting Happiness.

What is the best way to seek counseling if I feel I need help treating my addiction?

Once you’ve read your “Full Report” and followed the report’s advice, if you feel you need further advice on how to proceed you can take advantage of our report’s “free email consultation”.  Explain to us your challenge and we’ll give you avenues to explore, including things you can do on your own as well as possible types of counseling that will work best for you based on your unique personality structure.  Our Personality Analysts will examine your report and give you the options we believe will result in the fastest solution for YOU.

We won’t send you a “canned” response, but will explain how YOUR Harmony Report shows the best paths for you to choose from.

What makes a couple compatible ?

You’ll find that many researchers report that opposites attract, whereas other equally valid researchers present findings that it’s similar personalities who stand the best chance for long-term marital happiness.  They are both right, to a certain extent.  We’ve found that certain personality characteristics are best when similar, whereas similarity in others is a recipe for disaster.  Our proprietary (and one-of-a-kind) technology will leave you in no doubt whether or not you are compatible.  Beyond that, we offer a free email consult with every paid version of The Harmony Report, so you can know with certainty the odds for long-term relationship success.

What sections of The Harmony Report are best used for compatibility testing ?

The 2nd half of the report is used for compatibility testing.  It is our specialized “Big Five” profile based on over 30 years of research by our staff.  35 specific points of compatibility are measured and you will readily see any areas of incompatibility.  Moreover, we’ll give you a guide on how to deal with any “danger areas”.  To top that, you get one free email consult with every Full Version of The Harmony Report and you can ask our staff any question that has you concerned.  We are often asked, “Can you look at this report and tell us the likelihood of us having our own ‘Happily Ever After’ ?”

After we take the questionnaire, can we get an expert's opinion on our odds for living "Happily Ever After"?

As a matter of fact, that is the question most commonly asked by those who purchase the Full Report.  Each customer gets one free email consult in which you get to ask any single question about your results.  Along with our answers, we will point you to supplemental readings that are specific to your particular interests.  We are always available for further consultations but most people get their questions fully answered via the free email consult.
